First funding programme

The Sirius Minerals Foundation announced its first grant awards of around £300,000 in December 2017.

The first funding programme, initially announced in May 2017, was generally prioritised for projects in the vicinity of Sirius Minerals’ project sites and for projects between £500 and and £5,000.

A very large number of applications were received – the initial round was ten times oversubscribed. As a result of this the trustees increased the initial funding round to approximately £300,000 and looked to support a range of projects across the five key charitable objectives of the Foundation and throughout Sirius Minerals area of operations (Scarborough to Redcar).

The trustees were extremely grateful for the time taken by so many groups to make submissions. A summary of the successful application is provided below:

Rainbow Community Café Volunteers Group

Rainbow Community Café - improve kitchen equipment to enable the café to continue providing healthy balanced meals to the local community.

Purchase of laptop computers for members to complete IT training, and for all badge work progress to be logged on the Scout Association Compass computer system.

Improved access to minibeast area and pathway repairs.

Guisborough Rugby Union Football Club

Floodlighting improvement project.

Charity of John Corner (St. Hilda's Almshouses)

Phase 3 renovation programme: to provide a temporary safe shelter for parish residents who struggle to meet social housing criteria.

The Old Co-op Community Building

Undertake the roof and internal repairs required to re-open the community hobby suite. Once open the suite can support up to 50 people each week delivering basic skills and combatting isolation.
