Redcar Athletic Football Club has seen a significant growth in its revenue following a grant from the Sirius Minerals Foundation.
The Redcar based club, also known as Teesside Athletic FC Ltd, received £5,000 from the charity for improvements to its ground, including new perimeter fencing, installation of floodlights and the creation of a match day tuck shop.
Since the enhancements were made, the club has calculated increased revenue of over £3,000 in just six months, which has been generated by tuck shop profits and holding additional evening games thanks to the new floodlights.
Kevin Fryett, Club Secretary, said: “The funding from the Foundation has already made a fantastic impact on the amount of money that we are able to invest back into the club due to increased profits.”
“This additional revenue has meant that we have been able to purchase much-needed equipment to aid training and development at all levels, so players of all ages are benefitting.”
The grant has also covered the full cost of new perimeter fencing, giving the club additional security.
“Our club has previously been unable to afford the repair or replacement of the original fencing, which was subject to vandalism”, Fryett explained. “The grant has enabled us to replace the entire fence and given us added peace of mind.”
The Sirius Minerals Foundation is an independent charity which has been set up to support a range of projects that benefit the local community, including skills training, improving public spaces and facilities, environmental initiatives and community building projects.
Its first round of funding in late 2017 awarded grants totalling £300,000 to 75 projects in Redcar and Cleveland and North Yorkshire.
Peter Woods, Trustee for the Sirius Minerals Foundation said: “It’s fantastic to see that the grant we have awarded is helping to improve community facilities while generating revenue that is re-invested into the football club to benefit the health, wellbeing and skills of people of all ages.”
The Foundation is currently finalising its next round of funding, which it anticipates will be launched in late August. For more information, visit www.siriusmineralsfoundation.com.
