Funding in 2017
The Sirius Minerals Foundation announced its first grant awards of around £300,000 in December 2017.
The first funding programme, initially announced in May 2017, was generally prioritised for projects in the vicinity of Sirius Minerals’ project sites and was for projects between £500 and £5,000.
A very large number of applications were received – the initial round was ten times oversubscribed. As a result of this the trustees increased the initial funding round from £100,000 to approximately £300,000. They looked to support a range of projects across the five key charitable objectives of the Foundation and throughout the area where is Sirius Minerals is currently operating as part of its construction works (Scarborough to Redcar).
The trustees were extremely grateful for the time taken by so many groups to make submissions. A list of the successful application is provided below, together with case studies where available.
